I’m Troy Bowen Alan, and like many people, my life was dominated by the blue light of screens. We live in the age of instant gratification, but I began to wonder: What exactly are we gratifying? And what are we losing in the process? 
The concept for Odieape sprang from that simple yearning: for something real, something tangible, and something that demands your full, undivided attention.
In 2024, I decided to act. Selling exclusively through the odieape.com website isn’t just a business strategy; it’s my way of cutting out the middlemen and connecting directly with others who share this value. I wanted Odieape to feel like a small, warm corner shop online, where you know exactly who built it and why.

Why Wood?
When starting a company, the product choice is everything. I didn’t want to sell another disposable plastic item. 
I chose Wooden Games and Puzzles because Wood carries a soul:
- The Feel: When you touch a piece of finely sanded wood, you feel a weight and warmth that no pixel can replicate.
- The Challenge: These puzzles have no “hint” button or “undo” feature. They require you to slow down, think deeply, and respect the process.
- The Legacy: These are toys that can last for generations, never needing a software update. They are potential family heirlooms.
My goal is to sell these products to people who feel nostalgic for physical interaction; those seeking quiet focus in a noisy world, from families wanting a real game night to collectors looking for artistic and intellectual desk ornaments.
Craftsmanship and Commitment (From Forest to Your Table)
The startup journey involved moving from an idea to finding craftsmen who shared my vision. We are not a massive factory; we are a small workshop with an obsessive focus on detail.
The Odieape Process: Where Art Meets Science
- Intellectual Design: Every puzzle starts as a logical problem. We spend hours balancing difficulty with enjoyment.
- Responsible Sourcing: We are committed to using wood from sustainably managed sources. Currently, we import high-quality timber (such as Maple, Oak, or Rubberwood) from certified partners in Southeast Asia, supplemented by domestic U.S. suppliers. We believe a good product must have a good origin.
- The Human Touch: While we use precision cutting technology (CNC/Laser) to ensure perfect interlocking pieces, the final steps of sanding, smoothing, and finishing are done by hand. This is the crucial step that creates the “real” feeling of the finished product.
